Workmen removing Wall Paintings from the Synagogue

YUAG, Dura-Europos Collection, negative number dura-g703b~01

Henry Pearson, the Yale graduate student of architecture responsible for the successful removal of the synagogue wall paintings and their reinstallation in a reconstruction in the National Museum of Damascus, is photographed at work crouching between the painting and wall. An unidentified workman is in the foreground and Comte Robert du Mesnil du Buisson, who always wore his French military uniform on the site, stands on the right. A section of track from the Decauville railway system used in the excavation is visible in front of the painting.
