Great Organ Music at Yale with James O'Donnell

On Sunday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m., Professor James O’Donnell will play music by Nielsen, Franck, and Widor on Yale’s famed Newberry organ. The concert in Woolsey hall is free and open to all. Learn more and view the program here.

For twenty-three years, O’Donnell was the organist and master of the choristers at London’s Westminster Abbey. There he oversaw music for the day-to-day worship and was also responsible for the music at royal, state, and national occasions, including the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and most recently, for the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. O’Donnell came to Yale in January of 2023 where he is now professor in the Practice of Organ and Sacred Music at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the Yale School of Music.

Internationally recognized as a conductor and organ recitalist, O’Donnell has performed all over the world, including in the United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and throughout Europe. As a soloist and director, he has worked with many of Britain’s leading ensembles. Read O’Donnell’s bio.
