Students in Italy on study tour

Study Tours

Institute students and faculty travel the world as a group for study tours approximately every other year; the Institute defrays most of the costs of the tours.

Preparation for the study tour includes reading and discussion on a variety of related topics, and is supported by Colloquium lectures, student presentations, courses, and performances. Arguably, the preparation is nearly as valuable is the trip itself! On recent tours we have asked some students to write their impressions.

In 2004 the Institute visited Denmark and Sweden, and in May 2006 the destination was Mexico. More recently, the Institute visited Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Croatia in 2008; in 2010, Germany; in 2012 Turkey and Greece; in 2014, Italy; in 2016 the Baltic States; and in 2018 Spain. The 2020 study tour to Peru was cancelled due to the global pandemic but has been rescheduled for 2023.
