About Kurt Carr

Kurt Carr is recognized as one of the most prolific artists, composers, songwriters, and producers of our generation. A native of Hartford, Connecticut, he attended the University of Connecticut where he studied classical voice and piano. His musical education is the catalyst behind his very eclectic musical varieties. Carr has performed his music in European cathedrals, world-renowned churches, and in such prestigious venues as the White House, the Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, the Hollywood Bowl, and Carnegie Hall.

Carr’s career-changing moment came when he relocated to Los Angeles and became the new music director traveling the world with the legendary Rev. James Cleveland. While in Los Angeles, Kurt became creative music director for the West Angeles Church of God in Christ, where Bishop Charles E. Blake is pastor. West Angeles is considered the birthplace of the Praise and Worship sound in the Black church; Carr was a close collaborator and contributor to this revolutionary music ministry.

With over twenty years of experience in the gospel music world, Kurt Carr has delivered some of the best known songs in recent history, which are sung in Christian churches worldwide by every race, color, and creed. Carr’s work has garnered eight Stellar Awards, a GMA Dove Award, two Grammy nominations, the prestigious BMI Trailblazer of Gospel award, and a Special Honors award given by his fraternity Phi Beta Sigma Inc. He has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and received the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award at the 28th Annual Stellar Awards.

In July of 2019, he returned with the Kurt Carr Singers with new music that once again proved to be music for the SOUL, the project entitled Bless Somebody Else. In addition to his own release, Carr recently penned and produced the hit song “Good Favor” for the legendary Clark Sisters.

Carr believes his assignment in this season of his life is to be a blessing to others and to cause the people of the world to be more compassionate towards each other. “This is what the Gospel is all about: LOVE. If I can help somebody, then my living shall not be in vain.”
