Fully joint faculty appointment for a professor in the Practice of Choral Conducting and principal conductor of the Yale Schola Cantorum (full-time)

Responsibilities: Responsibilities will be divided into the following major categories:

  1. Conductor of the Yale Schola Cantorum;
  2. serve as a member of the choral conducting faculty by teaching and advising one-half the graduate conducting majors (typically, four per year);
  3. participate in the core curriculum of the Choral Conducting area;
  4. provide service to the Institute of Sacred Music, the School of Music, and the university.

Collaborative by nature, the successful candidate will also contribute as a faculty member in the interdisciplinary work of the Institute of Sacred Music. Music faculty members in the School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music maintain a professional profile that reflects the career of a distinguished teacher/performer.

Schola Cantorum: is a 24-28-voice student choral ensemble auditioned from around Yale University that performs, on average, 3 times per term, and typically tours or records annually in alternation.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have an active international career and distinction as a performing artist and pedagogue, as demonstrated by some combination of leadership in internationally recognized choral ensembles, performance in major venues, published recordings from major labels, and reviews in recognized press outlets. They will further have demonstrated expertise particularly, though not exclusively in the choral repertoire of the 15th-18thcenturies, a strong commitment to the performance of sacred music, and at least 10 years of successful teaching experience in choral conducting. Additionally, demonstrated commitment to and interdisciplinary understanding of sacred music in its theological and liturgical contexts and minimum education of a Bachelors degree or equivalent in work and education are expected.

Appointment: Professor in the Practice (highest non-tenure faculty rank in the School and Institute). Five-year term appointment renewable with successful review during the penultimate year. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position is full-time and includes all faculty benefits.
