In celebration of its 50th anniversary at Yale, the Institute of Sacred Music hosted several events in spring, 2024.
Concerts included the Yale Camerata joining with several other groups to perform Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem; a performance honoring musical legend Richard Smallwood entitled “Anthem of Praise” that featured numerous gospel luminaries; a Festal Evensong service featuring the newly formed Yale Consort with remarks by Professor Teresa Morgan; David Hill conducting Yale Schola Cantorum and Juilliard415 in a performance of the Bach B Minor Mass; and the anniversary closing event “All Creation Sings”, an ecumenical hymn festival with a community choir of 300 voices and guest preachers Drs. Barbara Brown Taylor and James Forbes. The anniversary events also include a symposium on the B Minor Mass and “Music and Mind”, a conversation between Richard Smallwood, Donald Lawrence, and Prof. Braxton Shelley.
With the exception of Britten’s War Requiem, all events are free and open to the public. View all anniversary events.
