ISM Soprano wins competition grand prize

June 17, 2024

We’re a little late in passing this news along, but it was too exciting not to share at some point! A belated congratulations to Juliet Papadopoulos M.M. Voice ‘24, who while an ISM student won a grand prize this past year at the Doug Davis Composition and Performance Awards and Commissions competition!

Juliet, along with piano accompanist Tomoko Nakayama, won the prize with a performance of Family Portraits (2000), a cycle of five songs plus an interlude, composed by Doug Davis.

In the words of the competition’s website, hosted by California State University Bakersfield, “[t]he Doug Davis Composition and Performance Endowment is dedicated to support and honor the performers and creators of music. The intention is that this endowment will financially support the performers of a specified musical composition each year, a reward for the focus of their talent.”
