Student Spotlight: Terrance McQueen, M.Div. '24

April 11, 2024

Originally from Fort Pierce, Florida, Terrance McQueen, M.Div. ‘24, shares a bit about his life and work at the ISM.

What are you doing at the ISM?

At the ISM, I have sought to examine the ways in which 21st century Christian churches both reinforce and transcend traditional racial, gendered, and sexual constructs. More specifically, I am interested in understanding how churches might adapt their liturgies and theologies to be inclusive. I am exploring how churches may choose to align themselves with a doctrine that might be harmful to those with particular marginalized identities. I also serve as a student reporter for the ISM and am the co-director of the Yale Divinity School Gospel Choir.

On February 28, Terrance delivered a sermon and led a gospel choir and band at the  Yale Divinity School’s Marquand Chapel service. Afterward, he was joined for the photo below by Michael Libunao-Macalintal (liturgical minister and chapel communications manager), Awet Andemicael (dean of Marquand Chapel), and Nathaniel Gumbs (director of chapel music):
