Description: This traveling exhibition is about the mutual respect and harmony possible among persons of differing beliefs and spiritual practices, rituals, and prayer. In the wider context of Chiapas, marked by religious conflict, indigenous Maya photographers from several ethnic groups in Chiapas share their diverse expressions of faith through photographs, objects, and related texts.
The Chiapas Photography Project (CPP) provides indigenous Maya people in Chiapas, Mexico with opportunities for cultural and artistic self-expression through photography. Since 1992, over 300 indigenous men and women from different ethnic groups and religious backgrounds have learned how to use photography as a mode of personal artistic expression, and many have undertaken projects that celebrate and dngage members of their communities. CPP has made possible several exhibitions and publications of work by indigenous photographers.
