Scott Cairns is the author of six collections of poetry, most recently, Compass of Affection: Poems Selected & New. With W. Scott Olsen, he co-edited The Sacred Place, a collection of prose and verse celebrating the intersections of landscape and ideas of the holy. He wrote the libretto forThe Martyrdom of Saint Polycarp, an oratorio composed by JAC Redford. His works have been included in Best Spiritual Writing, Best American Spiritual Writing, American Religious Poems, Upholding Mystery, andShadow & Light. His poetry has appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, The Paris Review, The New Republic, Poetry, Image, Spiritus, Tiferet. He is Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing at University of Missouri. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2006. His spiritual memoir Short Trip to the Edge, and his verse adaptations and translations, Love’s Immensity: Mystics on the Endless Life, both appeared in 2007.
