In case you missed it: Yale Camerata "Out of Time" slideshow and video

On Saturday, October 14, the Yale Camerata opened its season with a program of twentieth-century music on the theme “Out of Time.” Conducted by Dr. Felicia Barber, the program featured John Corigliano’s “Fern Hill,” a setting of the poem by Dylan Thomas for chorus, strings, and mezzo-soprano. Yale faculty member Adriana Zabala joined the Camerata for an effortless and graceful rendition of the solo. A chamber orchestra composed primarily of School of Music members adroitly provided accompaniment. In case you missed it, view the recording here.

Three guest conductors assisted Dr. Barber with the performance, including Dr. Jeffrey Benson, director of choral activities at San José State University; Dr. Benson conducted “No Time,” a traditional camp meeting song arranged by Susan Brumfield. Camerata assistant conductors Mahima Kumara and Alex Whittington, both choral conducting students at Yale, each led one piece. The passage of time was a theme in other songs, including “Ain’t Got Time to Die” by Hall Johnson, with a tenor solo by Alex Whittington, and “Time” by Jennifer Lucy Cook. The seventy chorus members, ably prepared by Dr. Barber, sang enthusiastically and skillfully. The Camerata will next perform in its annual Advent concert on Saturday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Woolsey Hall.
