Voxtet Ives

The Yale Voxtet performed “Ives Vocal Music” in Yale’s Sudler Hall on Sunday, October 27 as part of a weekend of events celebrating the 150th anniversary of Charles Ives, one of the most prominent and influential modernist composers of the 20th century. The songs centered on Ives’ own life experience, as well as on themes of nature, patriotism, and, of course, some Yale college songs! Pictured from left to right are: Izzy Barbato, Ellen Robertson, Veronica Roan, Trevor Scott, Sam Denler, Fredy Bonilla, and Matthew Dexter. ISM coach and lecturer, Tomoko Nakayama, is accompanying on the piano.

Members of the Yale Voxtet are students of James Taylor, professor in the practice of voice, and are candidates for graduate degrees in voice. The group specializes in early music, oratorio, and chamber ensemble. In addition to performing a variety of chamber music programs each year, the group sings, tours, and records as part of Yale Schola Cantorum.

The Irving S. Gilmore Music Library, a major sponsor of the anniversary events, is the repository for the Charles Ives’ papers, which includes musical scores, manuscripts, correspondence, scrapbooks, diaries, and photos, documenting his life and work.
