Haydn’s Stabat Mater dates from 1767 and is among the earliest of his large-scale vocal works. It was praised by his contemporaries and was published on a large scale. It became his most well-known sacred work.

Anna Kuzina-Rozhdestvenska is a Ukrainian composer who composed Agnus Dei in response to the start of the war in Ukraine to honor the memory of its countless victims. The traditional liturgical text is framed by tubular bells which ring at the opening in memory of the lives lost, and they sound again after the final dona nobis pacem to mark the proclamation of peace throughout the earth. For a taste of what’s to come on Sunday, you can view the 2022 world premiere of the piece at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, U.K. (the singing starts at the 2:15 mark).
