Lydia Lee works at the intersection of music and Christian theology, and she is interested in how the medium of music can be a unique mode of “speaking about” God. Prior to pursuing the MDiv at Yale, Lydia completed her MPhil in Music at the University of Cambridge. Her master’s dissertation, completed under the supervision of Jeremy Begbie, examined the relationship between music and infinite longing (Sehnsucht) within and beyond German Romanticism. Lydia grew up on her family’s sixth-generation farm in rural Iowa, and she graduated from Iowa State University with BA degrees in Music (Clarinet and Piano Performance) and English. During her time as an undergraduate, Lydia studied as a Visiting Student at the University of Oxford, and she spent two summers interning at the Bravo! Vail Music Festival in Colorado. Alongside the ISM, Lydia is a student at Berkeley Divinity School, and she is a received member of the Church of England.
