Join Yale Camerata and conductor Dr. Felicia Barber for An American Songbook, a concert celebrating the richness and diversity of the American choral tradition. Spanning more than two centuries of music, the program explores early American shape-note singing, Appalachian folk traditions, Native American melodies, the Harlem Renaissance, African American spirituals, and contemporary choral works.

The concert features music by William Billings, R. Nathaniel Dett, Florence Price, Undine Smith Moore, Troy Robertson, Brent Michael Davids, Jake Runestad, and the world premiere of Litany of Praise by Jeffery L. Ames.

Presented in a historic year—marking Camerata’s 40th anniversary and the 250th anniversary of the United States—this program reflects on the nation’s musical heritage and the many cultural voices that have shaped it.

This event is free and open to the public and will also be livestreamed.
