Description: A poetry reading by David Yezzi, to be followed by a discussion with Christian Wiman. The event is part of the 2023-2024 Literature & Spirituality series at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.

David Yezzi’s latest books are “Late Romance: Anthony Hecht—A Poet’s Life” (St. Martin’s Press) and “More Things in Heaven: New and Selected Poems” (Measure Press). He is the editor of “The Swallow Anthology of New American Poets”, foreword by J. D. McClatchy. As an actor, he recently performed the roles of King Lear (Baltimore Shakespeare Factory) and Hamlet’s Ghost/Player King (Chesapeake Shakespeare). A 2022 short-term visiting fellow at Jesus College, Oxford, he teaches in The Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins.

Christian Wiman is the Clement-Muehl Professor of Communication Arts at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and Yale Divinity School. He is the author, editor, or translator of fourteen books, including “He Held Radical Light: The Art of Faith, the “Faith of Art” and “Survival Is a Style”. From 2003-2013 he was the editor of “Poetry”. He is a former Guggenheim Fellow and holds two honorary doctorates.
