Schola auditions

From August 27–August 31 and September 4-5, 2024, the Yale Institute of Sacred Music will hold auditions for the 2024-25 season for Yale Schola Cantorum, Yale Camerata, Yale Recital Chorus, Yale Repertory Chorus, and other chapel choruses. Yale students, faculty, and staff, and members of the New Haven community, are invited to register.

Auditions will take place in the Great Hall at Yale Divinity School, 409 Prospect St. New Haven at the following times:

  • Tue Aug 27: 1:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Wed Aug 28: 1:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Thu Aug 29: 4:00-8:00 p.m. (Camerata Only)
  • Fri Aug 30: 4:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Sat Aug 31: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

If you wish to be considered for the Yale Schola Cantorum and have not previously been a member, your audition on Aug 27-31 will serve as a screening for a second audition on Sept. 4 or 5. The roster for Schola will be finalized following the conclusion of auditions on Sept. 5.

Singers are invited to prepare a short solo song or aria (accompanist provided) and will be led through a few simple vocal exercises demonstrating range and musicianship skills. Typically only one audition is required to be considered for membership in multiple ISM choral ensembles. Membership in Yale Schola Cantorum will require a second audition.

What you need to do:

  • Fill out this questionnaire (you will receive an email with a confirmed audition time within 48 hours).
  • Prepare your short solo or aria and bring one copy of the music with you for the provided accompanist.
  • Please review each choir’s description, and the time commitment required, so that you are able to make an informed decision of the best fit for you and your schedule.
