Hands-on Mentorship: ISM Students Work with Cantus

Cantus workshop

This week ISM choral conducting students participated in a choral seminar with world-class vocal ensemble, Cantus. Leading excerpts by Ko Matsushita, Moses Hogan, Edie Hill, and Eric Whitacre—first in a traditional conducting setup and then “folded within” the ensemble—gave students the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and mentorship as they develop their skills as choral leaders.

The ensemble, which is celebrated for its warmth, blend, and storytelling across repertoire from the Renaissance to today, performed over the weekend at Yale as part of a special collaboration with Lorelei and the Yale Glee Club, in a concert that explored belonging and identity through contemporary choral innovation.
